Goals of Care Conversations Communications Skills Training for Multidisciplinary Renal Teams
Based on VA's Goals of Care Conversations skills training course for MDs, APRNs, and PAs, these training materials have been customized for use with multidisciplinary renal teams by adding examples and drills specific to kidney disease and dialysis. The curriculum includes information about the overlapping and unique roles each team member plays in eliciting patients' goals of care, providing information about treatmeant options, and making shared treatment decisions. The training is highly interactive, and takes approximately 4-5 hours to deliver if done all at one time. The training can also be delivered over a series of shorter sessions. The "Putting It All Together" exercise can be used during a later skills refresher session. |
